Dems in Washington: The Party of No When it Comes to Health Care
by Randy   OCT 27, 2009 2:35 PM

Michele Bachmann - MN6 (R) has posted a short video on her Facebook account. Here she explains how Republicans are locked out from presenting any alternatives the health care bills floating around in Congress.  Video

All I can say is the President is very busy with golf, doing fund raisers, and really thinking a lot about maybe someday sending more troops to Afghanistan.  Plus there is all the nationalizing of US businesses that he has to do.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty criticized President Barack Obama on Monday for "projecting potential weakness" on national security.

The Bachmann Burr
by George Will , Washington Post   OCT 24, 2009 6:09 PM

A capsule profile of Michele Bachmann from the beginning to now...

When Marcus Bachmann came home that Saturday evening in 2000, he checked the telephone answering machine and was mystified by the many messages congratulating his wife for something. "Michele," he said, "do you have something to tell me?" She did.

...

Some of her supposed excesses are, however, not merely defensible, they are admirable. For example, her June 9 statement on the House floor in which she spoke of "gangster government" has been viewed on the Internet about 2 million times. She noted that, during the federal takeover of General Motors, a Democratic senator and one of her Democratic House colleagues each successfully intervened with GM to save a constituent's dealership from forced closure. One of her constituents, whose dealership had been in the family for 90 years, told her that the $15 million dealership had been rendered worthless overnight, and, Bachmann said, "GM is demanding that she hand over her customer list," probably to give it to surviving GM dealerships that once were competitors.

by Randy   OCT 18, 2009 10:44 PM

The OFA (Obama's 'Organizing For America') is planning on making 100,000 phone calls to Congress on Oct 20, in support of ObamaCare.  We on the right need to burn the phone lines down, and swamp out any effect of the OFA sycophants.

Good Intentions Aren't Enough with Health Care Reform
by Randy   OCT 18, 2009 8:55 AM

Sarah Palin has added another notebook entry to her Facebook page.  This one explains how good intentions do not always work out so well. It further explains some likely unintended consequences of government mandates;

Sarah's Facebook entry:

Now that the Senate Finance Committee has approved its health care bill, it’s a good time to step back and take a look at the long term consequences should its provisions be enacted into law.

The bill prohibits insurance companies from refusing coverage to people with pre-existing conditions and from charging sick people higher premiums. [1] It attempts to offset the costs this will impose on insurance companies by requiring everyone to purchase coverage, which in theory would expand the pool of paying policy holders.

However, the maximum fine for those who refuse to purchase health insurance is $750. [2] Even factoring in government subsidies, the cost of purchasing a plan is much more than $750. The result: many people, especially the young and healthy, will simply not buy coverage, choosing to pay the fine instead. They’ll wait until they’re sick to buy health insurance, confident in the knowledge that insurance companies can’t deny them coverage. Such a scenario is a perfect storm for increasing the cost of health care and creating an unsustainable mandate program.

3.6 Million Jobs Lost is Quite Positive
by Randy   OCT 15, 2009 6:48 PM

The Heritage Foundation posted some results from just released reports on the effects of the $787 billion stimulus bill;

The Obama administration released the first hard numbers on how many jobs their $787 billion stimulus package has created or saved on Recovery.gov today. The number: 30,383 jobs from roughly $16 billion worth of stimulus contracts awarded directly by federal agencies.

Crunching the numbers, that comes to $533,000 per job “saved or created.” To put those 30,383 jobs in perspective, consider that the U.S. economy lost 263,000 net jobs just last month and has lost 3.6 million net jobs since President Barack Obama was sworn into office.

It doesn't get much better in the rest of the report.

I took my mom to a doctor appointment the other day. The waiting room had a plasma TV with CNN on. (I only watch CNN when I have no choice, not even to turn it off. ) They were discussing how many jobs were saved by the stimulus plan.  But then I observed that all the jobs that they listed were government jobs.  i.e. teachers, police, etc.. Well that makes it all much clearer. It has nothing to do with the real economy, but everything to do with government expansion.

Bachmann Calls for Full Audit of ACORN Activities in Minnesota
by Michele Bachmann   OCT 13, 2009 4:33 PM

Taxpayers need to know the full story when it comes to how ACORN has used government funds in its work. But, while the federal funding ACORN has received is significant -- $53 million in direct federal grants since 1994, it also gets funds from states too. Minnesota taxpayers, in fact, have forked over $109,000 from 1996 to 2008, in fact.

In light of the recent reports of ACORN’s problems enforcing ethical and even legal behavior within its organization, many states have launched their own investigations into how that funding has been spent. I wrote to Governor Pawlenty last week to urge him to have an independent investigation of this matter in Minnesota. The full text of my letter is below:

Ship of Fools: Obama's Intimates and Advisors
by Mac Fuller, American Thinker   OCT 11, 2009 9:34 AM

The following thumbnails describe a very small sampling of the locust horde of Leftist bureaucrats President Barack Hussein Obama has deliberately chosen to help him grasp the helm of America's ship of state, strip it from the American people, and steer it hard to port.

The Obama Administration is plainly subverting democracy in America, wildly careening our previous 230-year history of democracy so dangerously Leftward that after a mere nine months we are in terrible danger of sinking.

Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize - LOL
by Randy   OCT 09, 2009 11:10 AM

President Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize - The Nobel committee said in awarding the prize;  "We have not given the prize for what may happen in the future. We are awarding Obama for what he has done in the preceding year,"  Since the nominations closed on Jan 31, 2009, the award was apparently given for his nomination and election in 2008.  I can only assume that " It must have been the Greek columns that put him over the top."

Meanwhile here is a compilation of Obama's five most embarrassing speeches.

2009 RPM Convention
by Randy   OCT 03, 2009 4:27 PM

I left the convention a little early, and there are no straw poll results yet. Lots of good speakers today. Michele Bachmann wowed the the audience as usual, as did John Kline, Eric Paulsen, and Tim Pawlenty. All were emphasizing a freedom message which was a hit with the conventioneers. Will update the voting results when available.

All nine gubernatorial candidates also gave five minute speeches preceding the straw ballot vote. The ballot was setup with a vote for 1st pick, and 2nd pick. Should be interesting how that went down.

Of course there was the usual convention voting on party constitution amendments. Which took up a lot of time. Maybe we need a different way of handling those things. Sure are time consuming.

A presentation by Grant Cermak on a new database management system, for the party and candidates is using the full power of the Internet, and the relational database. It should be a great tool for candidates.

UPDATE: 1st Choice Results (1-9): Seifert, Emmer, Anderson, Hann, Kohls, Herwig, Jungbauer/Haas/Davis (tie)

UPDATE 2:  2nd Choice Results (1-9): Hann, Emmer, Anderson, Seifert, Kohls, Haas, Jungbauer, Davis and Herwig

UPDATE 3: TrueNorth has a review of the convention. It also nicely covers the Nathan Hansen / Veterans controversy. I had to leave before that issue was partially resolved.  Sounds like it still needs some work.

No Closer to American Energy Independence
by Michele Bachmann   OCT 01, 2009 4:55 PM

One year ago today, Congress smartly allowed the ban on off-shore drilling to expire. After months of urging Congress to take every action at its disposal to increase the supply of American-made energy, I was thrilled to celebrate Energy Independence Day 2008.

However, one year later, we have made no progress. First, the Obama Administration put an abrupt halt to plans already in place to open up the outer continental shelf and public lands in Utah to energy exploration. And, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has announced it could be 2012 before the administration even decides whether it will consider moving forward.

Washington is not only not making progress; it is, in fact, sending us further from achieving energy independence than even before.

Read the rest of Michele Bachmann's article here.

My assessment is we will never achieve energy independence. Our demand for energy far out strips our ability and the will of government to permit us to create the energy needed for this country.  The current fad of renewable energy is misplaced, and will cause us to lose many precious years of energy development in more productive areas.  But it is a good way to waste taxpayers dollars.
