Quote of the day:

Dear Friend:
Yesterday was an amazing day for me. A real testament to the power that you, the people, have. And, a wonderful experience in the blessings of the Great American Experiment!
I was out and about in Minnesota talking to the people about health care. I was joined by my good friend and colleague, Dr. Michael Burgess, Republican Representative from Texas, who is not only a physician but also a member of one of the committees drafting the health care legislation. He's been a great voice for freedom and the free market and he really helped answer people's questions about the bills that are making their way through the Congress.
Let me tell you, at each event yesterday, while there was some support for President Obama's government-run reforms, I got an overwhelming sense that people are just plain tired of Washington's government-knows-best attitude.
Yesterday's first public meeting on health care reform brought small business owners from a good stretch of my district together at a multi-chamber lunch and discussion.
You've heard me say it before: America's small businesses are the engine of our economy; the job creators and prosperity builders. And, that's why it's truly puzzling to me that the Democrats' health reform would punish them with penalties and taxes that will force them to choose between providing jobs or providing government-set health coverage.
My second public meeting was a good old-fashioned townhall. We had more than 600 people in attendance. We filled the auditorium and the overflow room we'd set up. It was a fantastic opportunity to share with these citizens the Republican alternatives that the media just aren't talking about: Health Savings Accounts, Association Health Plans, tort reform, tax code changes, insurance reforms, my very own Health Care Freedom of Choice Act, and more.
Finally, after the townhall, I headed over to the Minnesota State Fair, where a great discussion developed, turning into an impromptu townhall meeting!
People are fired up about this issue...and well they should be! Americans enjoy the very best quality health care in the world. We need to pass reform to make it more affordable and more accessible, but we need to preserve the doctor-patient relationship and we need to expand consumer choice.
You can make a difference! Make sure your Congress knows how you feel.
God bless and thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Congresswoman Michele Bachmann

A few weeks ago, Eric Holder saw nothing wrong with Black Panthers using billy clubs to intimidate voters. Today, he thinks intimidating terrorists with cigars is a crime. Holder is the one who should be answering tough questions under oath.

MoveOn.org is at it again...
Dear MoveOn member,
Your local MoveOn Council is organizing an important event tomorrow in Saint Paul—can you be there?
We're taking action at events like these because this is a make-or-break moment right-wing extremists are crashing political events around the country and trying to dominate the public debate over President Obama's agenda.
We can't let that happen in Saint Paul. Local MoveOn members are making sure Sen. Al Franken knows that we're counting on him to support health care reform with a real public health insurance option that will help expand coverage and bring down costs for all of us. The event is on Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at 12:00 PM in Saint Paul. Click here for more details and to RSVP:
Location: Al Franken St. Paul Office
Here's the description provided by the event host:
This is a flyering and letter drop-off event. We'll gather letters from our friends and families in support of a strong public option, and drop them off at Sen. Al Franken's office. During that time we will do a honk and wave and hand out flyers. The time to show our support for real health care reform is now! Minnesotans can't afford to wait! Let's let Al Franken know he's got our support and that we want him to stand strong. We'll meet in front of Sen. Franken's St. Paul office building (the Federal Building and U.S. Court House). We'll hand out flyers and hold up signs. Please bring signs, but be aware that signs on sticks are not allowed. Thanks for all you do!

Oops the Obama web site Organizing for America has been setting up appointments for individuals to meet with their senators. But it appears that the Senators no nothing about it. Oh dear. Never mind. Makes you wonder about OFA. Diane Feinstein is complaining about exactly that problem in this article on the Weekly Standard web site.

Americans for Prosperity have put together an analysis of House bill HR 3200 which is the only complete health bill currently in circulation: Read it here. Also see the exhaustive breakdown done by American Thinker referenced here.
Tonight: Special Briefing on Health Care Reform
By now I'm sure you've heard about the disruptions at congressional town hall meetings across America. These troublemakers are trying to prevent members of Congress from having productive, rational conversations with us about health care reform. We can't let troublemakers stifle public debate, or we will not win health care reform this year.
To help fight back, our allies at Health Care for America Now (HCAN) have organized a special online briefing to night with Texas Representative Lloyd Doggett; actress Edie Falco; Richard Kirsch, HCAN's national campaign director; and Dan Heck, a regional director for Working America and HCAN. Join us for the special online health care briefing on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 9 p.m. EDT (6 p.m. PDT) to learn about health care reform and how to fight back against the lobbyist-funded right wing.

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is outspoken, conservative, media-friendly — and for many in the Democratic Party, a new public enemy No. 1.
Now that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is out of office, there are few Republican officials in the country Democrats would rather unseat in 2010 than Bachmann, a two-term congresswoman with a habit of pushing the buttons of liberals on everything from ACORN to global warming to even whether President Barack Obama is, as she once asked, "anti-American."

She's back. And, she likes the fight a fellow female conservative firebrand is showing in Washington.
Former Alaskan governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said Democratic health care reforms would hurt care for the elderly, sick and disabled in a statement posted on Facebook and that as Americans find out more details of about the proposals, “our collective jaw is dropping, and we’re saying not just no, but hell no!”

"The DFL again is running up against it's toughest political foe: money.
The party was, for awhile at least, behind in FICA payments to its own employees. There are rumblings that it also could be facing fines from the Federal Elections Commission. There even are rumblings that the heating and air conditioning system is in such a bad state of repair at the party's St. Paul headquarters that employees were wearing coats at their offices late last winter."

"President Barack Obama is correct when he says that “soaring health-care costs make our current course unsustainable.” Many Americans agree: 55% of respondents to a recent CNN poll think the U.S. health-care system needs a great deal of reform. Yet 70% of Americans are satisfied with their current health-care arrangements, and for good reason—they work.
Consumers are receiving quality medical care at little direct cost to themselves. This creates runaway costs that have to be addressed. But ill-advised reforms can make things much worse."

From the Whitehouse web site... wanting you to turn in your friends and neighbors for not liking or saying bad things about Obamacare - What will this be called: SnitchAmerica
"There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov."

UPDATE 2: GOP Senator: White House Encroaching on First Amendment
by Eamon Javers, Politico AUG 01, 2009 4:22 PM
Five years after he put his money behind the Swift Boat ads that helped tank John Kerry’s presidential campaign, Senate Democrats gave T. Boone Pickens a warm welcome at their weekly policy lunch Thursday.
Or at least most of them did.
... Franken, who was seated talking to someone else, did not stand when Pickens said hello. Instead, Franken began to berate him about the billionaire’s financing of the Swift Boat ads in 2004. [ That was five years ago. What an idiot! ]
According to a source, the confrontation grew heated.

July 31 (Bloomberg) -- Boeing Co., Xerox Corp., and Caterpillar Inc. are among 185 companies and business groups objecting to health-care legislation in the U.S. House that they say would hurt their ability to cover employees.
The legislation may require companies to offer different coverage for workers depending on their location and limit changes to retiree benefits, the business coalition said in a letter being sent to Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio.
“These provisions will raise costs for both employers and employees without improving quality or efficiency,” the businesses said.

“Here is Cars.gov. Let’s say you go in, if I understand this right – I go in and I say, ‘I want to turn in my clunker.’ The dealer goes to Cars.gov, and then they hit submit transaction. Here it says, ‘Privacy Act & Security Statement,’ and you’re just like, ‘Oh, it’s the Privacy Act of 1974. Whatever, I agree. Now, this is how bad this system is.”
However, once the Web operator proceeds beyond that point in the dealers section – the government has some very frightening language about what authority they have over your computer posted, as Beck reported. Ordinary consumers wouldn’t encounter this warning, but the information contained in the dealer’s computers might include theirs.
“A warning box comes up, and it says, ‘This application provides to the DoT CARS system. When logged on to the CARS system, your computer is considered a federal computer system and it is property of the United States government,’” Beck read. “‘Any and all uses of this system and all files on this system may be intercepted, monitored, recorded, copied, audited, inspected, and disclosed to authorized CARS, DoT and law enforcement personnel, as well as authorized officials of other agencies, both domestic and foreign.’”
“Good God almighty!” Beck said.
