Quote of the day:
“How do you tell a communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.”

SAN DIEGO — Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty urged fellow Republicans today to welcome outsiders into the party ranks, rather than scorn them, as the GOP rebuilds from defeats last year that left the White House and Congress in Democratic hands.
The potential 2012 presidential candidate, addressing a meeting of the Republican National Committee, appealed to members to build bridges to independents and conservative-leaning Democrats that would win converts and, in turn, elections.

On the very same day that House Democrats rolled out their trillion-dollar health care reform bill, the Associated Press reported that our country's budget deficit has topped $1 trillion for the first time in our nation's history, with every indication that it will reach nearly $2 trillion by this fall.
Our nation's debt stands near $11.5 trillion — another record for Uncle Sam. And to make matters worse, at the end of May, the U.S. government owed China $801.5 billion.
Meanwhile, unemployment numbers woefully surpassed administration estimates in June and now sit at 9.5 percent. The consensus among economists is that we're headed up to at least 10 percent.

Obama's Approval Index has sunk to a new low today to -12 percent. . That means 28 percent strongly approve of the job Obama is doing, while 40 percent strongly disapprove. It seems the more he speaks the lower he goes.

A speech by Dr May, delievered at the Lubbock TX tea party April 15, 2009 --
Ladies and gentlemen, This is a Time For Courage.
We are gathered here today on the Plains of West Texas in common purpose. We are here to remind our government that this is our country, We the People are still in charge, and our government is still our servant and not our master.
Our Nation’s founding document is The Declaration of Independence. It tells us that our rights come from God and not from a small group of Elite men and women.
Our Constitution starts with the words “We the People.” Our Constitution was written for ordinary Americans like you and me. Our Constitution protects us from our government and from the politicians.
Our President has complained that our Constitution gives ordinary people too much protection.

FALLEN WARRIORS TO BE HONORED AT VIGIL ON SUNDAY NIGHT IN STILLWATER
The Yellow Ribbon Network of Washington County invites members of surrounding communities to gather on Sunday, July 19 at 6 p.m. to honor and recognize the courageous service of the three members of the Stillwater 34th Military Police Company killed in Iraq on Thursday while serving with the 34th Red Bulls Infantry Division. The silent vigil will be held at the Stillwater Veterans Memorial located next to the Historic Courthouse and will not only honor these three fallen warriors and their families for the sacrifices they have made in serving our country, but recognize and show respect for all deployed service members who have made the decision to serve our country and the families who support their decisions to serve.
The Yellow Ribbon Network of Washington County was organized earlier this year in response to the deployment of over 150 Washington County residents with the Red Bulls Infantry Division. The mission of the Network is to further community awareness of the need to support military families during a deployment and engage in reintegration efforts when our troops return home.
The Stillwater Veterans Memorial is located at Third and Pine Streets in downtown Stillwater.

On Thursday - Sunday (July 16-19), the National Association of Secretaries of State is holding a convention here in Minneapolis.
Minnesota Majority, the non-profit leading the Photo ID Required For Voting, is holding an Advocacy March in front of the Downtown Hilton. The Secretaries of State will be leaving to go play golf on Thursday at noon-1 pm. The goal is to get some national and statewide media attention to photo ID. It is about a two hour commitment.
Dan McGrath, MN Majority, is trying to organize car pooling. The Light Rail doesn't come downtown close to the Hilton. The Hilton has parking and the Convention Center has parking (2 block walk). I don't know what Orchestra Hall uses.

1001 Marquette Ave.
Minneapolis
We have some signs from before, or create a sign to bring. Everything positive. This is a pro-Photo ID rally. We want to keep this before the MN population. Please be there at 11:45 at the latest.

A must see video of the incompetence of inspector generals associated with the Federal Reserve.

Rep. Alan Grayson asks the Federal Reserve Inspector General about the trillions of dollars lent or spent by the Federal Reserve and where it went, and the trillions of off balance sheet obligations. Inspector General Elizabeth Coleman responds that the IG does not know and is not tracking where this money is.
The stimulus package the U.S. Congress is completing would raise the governments commitment to solving the financial crisis to $9.7 trillion, enough to pay off more than 90 percent of the nations home mortgages.
The Federal Reserve, Treasury Department and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation have lent or spent almost $3 trillion over the past two years and pledged up to $5.7 trillion more. The Senate is to vote this week on an economic-stimulus measure of at least $780 billion. It would need to be reconciled with an $819 billion plan the House approved last month.
Only the stimulus bill to be approved this week, the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program passed four months ago and $168 billion in tax cuts and rebates enacted in 2008 have been voted on by lawmakers. The remaining $8 trillion is in lending programs and guarantees, almost all under the Fed and FDIC. Recipients names have not been disclosed.

I would like to respond to the President’s Washington Post op-ed, “Rebuilding Something Better.” All quotes in this post are from the President.
"Nearly six months ago, my administration took office amid the most severe economic downturn since the Great Depression."
The President and his team use this language to lower the bar against which they are measured. The U.S. economy was quite unhealthy on January 20th, and it still is. Still, Donald Marron shows that, while the President’s statement is almost technically true, there is a big difference between “most severe … since the Great Depression” and “comparable to the Great Depression.” Here is Donald’s graph

UPDATE: July 14, 2009 - Sarah Palin's op-ed response to Obama -- The 'Cap And Tax' Dead End
by ADN JUL 03, 2009 2:15 PM
Sarah Palin has decided to resign from governor of Alaska. She will step down on July 26th.
From the Anchorage Daily News: http://www.adn.com/palin/story/852419.html
"Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional 'Lame Duck' status in this particular climate would just be another dose of 'politics as usual,' something I campaigned against and will always oppose. It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success."

WASHINGTON -- Spending by lawmakers on taxpayer-financed trips abroad has risen sharply in recent years, a Wall Street Journal analysis of travel records shows, involving everything from war-zone visits to trips to exotic spots such as the Galápagos Islands.
The spending on overseas travel is up almost tenfold since 1995, and has nearly tripled since 2001, according to the Journal analysis of 60,000 travel records. Hundreds of lawmakers traveled overseas in 2008 at a cost of about $13 million. That's a 50% jump since Democrats took control of Congress two years ago.
